    Asus P5B system won't post

    Hi
I have bought the following components to build a PC but it won't post.
    Asus P5B mobo
    2 GB Crucial Ballistix PC2 6400 Ram
    Leadtek 8800GT 512MB Gpu
    Intel E8200 Cpu
    ANtec p182 Case
    Corsair VX550W Psu
    Samsung spinpoint sata2 200GB hdd

When I switch on the fan on CPU heatsink and gpu start fine. There is no
beep from the mobo, but I can't find a connector for the system speaker
from the case to plug into the mobo with the other front case connectors
    like HDD led.

Anyway I know there is proabaly a bios issue because I got the P5B in
july 2007 and has bios version 600, and I need revision 1800 to run the
cpu. I am wondering if this is what would be expected to happen or not?
I've tried to make headway and have
    1. taken all but one stick or ram out
    2. disconnected the HDD

    anyone got any ideas please?
    GAv

That BIOS is way too old to run the new E8xxx CPU.
You probably need to borrow a Celeron/P4/PD/E21xx/E4xxx/E6xxx off someone just to flash the bios to the newest version.

It's the 1226 beta bios you need to run any E8XXX processors ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support- but yeah, you'll need a supported cpu installed to let you flash it to the right version.

Definintely should have flashed the BIOS before putting the new components in.

Have you still got the old CPU you were using previously with the P5B to drop back in and flash it?

Re: Asus P5B system won't post

thanks guys, I think I will ditch the P5B because I can't get the cpus that you mention without buying them and then they would not have any use for me

    cheers
