Copying a Dual layer DVD game

    Hey guys,
I scratched one of my game dvd's badly, so I wanted to make a copy before it dies or something stupid.
I'm at a loss as to how to do this, so I was wondering if anyone could help me. I've browsed around on doom9 and from what I understand, everything is only to do with ripping video off DVD's.

Could anyone just point me in the right direction of what I should do/need?

    Thanks
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can't copy it properly. It probably has copy protection and to by pass that would be illegal.

Funkstar, I am not saying anything against the rules... I am presenting a legal alternative to his problem... I have even said what he wants to do is illegal.

Except it is illegal under the DMCA, because you're using a method to bypass the copy protection. Yes it's an American law, but the internet these days has to worry about people getting sued from all over

Re: Copying a Dual layer DVD game

No-dvd isn't bypassing copy protection, it is just bypassing DVD check... That is legal enough to never cause prosecution if you own the game afaik...

Apologies to mods/admins if this is still out of bounds but I see no reason why it should be...

Out of interest, how do you consider a method designed to ensure that you have the original DVD and not a copy, not some form of copy protection?

Yes, no-DVD cracks are morally ok, because you're just using something you paid for in a more convienent manner, but unfortunately that doesn't change their legality because the DMCA is a really badly written piece of legislation!

By applying a No-DVD patch what are you actually copying? Nothing. Hence, no copy protection being broken. I admit it is a way around it, but its no more illegal than going 1mph over the speed limit.

If its morally ok, and it is not prosecutable then imo its legal

Re: Copying a Dual layer DVD game

Well anyway, this is off topic now and there will be no further discussion of the original problem in this thread so I have reported the thread, so a mod can come here and decide whether this is worth closing or not.

Re: Copying a Dual layer DVD game

Sorry, Oobie-, but what you're asking for is a legal problem area for Hexus. What you choose to do is of course up to you, but it's against the rules to discuss it here.

As for no-CD cracks, they usually work by taking the original code, bypassing certain calls and replacing the CD check. As such, they copy and modify original code illegally. That is certainly the case with a a good may of them and, as such, is against our rules for discussion here.
