    Question vga-dvi female to dvi-hdmi...

    not working:\
its probably just not compatable right?
makes no sense though as the dell ispiron 1520 detects it on my 8600m gt...
can set the res and everything but nothing shows up
then like go to try the crt/lcd button in all its combo's and sweet nothing
pretty annoying as it would have been very useful when taking the lappy round to a friends and bump it up on their tv. i don't care that it wouldn't be in "HD" it would have just been a nice solution if they didn't have vga...
    any solutions?
    cheers

ps. i even tried setting vista to duplicate the display etc and no go:\

Good riddance. Wish I'd done it about a year ago.

You connected VGA to DVI then DVI to HDMI ? It's not going to work, VGA is incompatible with HDMI.

Just to extend on the above - VGA has no digital out. HDMI is digital only.

It won't work no matter how you do it.

    Re: vga-dvi female to dvi-hdmi...

to extend further, a vga-dvi adapter converts analogue vga to dvi-d (analogue), and a dvi -hdmi converts dvi-i (digital) to hdmi, disregarding the analogue bit. There may be some communication, but the actual image is lost in transmission, since the analogue image isnt sent anywhere in the dvi-hdmi adapter, the anaglgue part of the socket wont even be wired
