Building new pc, OC q6600 help

Hi in around two weeks I'm ordering the parts for my new pc and I just wondered if anyone could help me out a bit on overclocking my cpu. Ill be overclocking on a quad core q6600 g0 with an asus silent knight II cooler instead of the stock cooler to keep things nice and cool. Ill be using an Asus p5kc mobo and I hope to achieve 3ghz, I don't want to go much higher than that. Ill be using corsair p6400 800mhz ram (2x2gb) and I want to keep the ram at 800mhz with 3ghz, will this be ok?
I also need a little help with the vcore, will it need increasing at around 3ghz?

Just want to check, first time overclocking

That sounds fine but I would change the cooler. The asus coolers are typically form over function.

This comes to around £775 from aria with next day delivery. Any advice?

P.S Ive spent quite a while looking at different sites and ive found aria.co.uk to be the cheapest but if anyone knows if I could build this system or similar system cheaper then please say

That looks pretty good, you might consider the Asus P5Q PRO. It's the newer P45 chipset, it doesn't really have any particualrly useful features over P35 though so not much to worry about.

The cooler I mentioned above.

The PSU is the last thing. Most people (here at least) consider hiper to be sub-par as far as PSU's go. They have a tendancy to die far before their time but usually don't take your PC with it, so that's something I guess.

Take a look at the corsair 520W HX if you are after a modular PSU. It will cost a bit more but they are pretty much silent and fantastic overall quality.

If you don't mind losing modular cables then the 550VX is a smilar unit but £10 or so less

I'd normally use Ebuyer or Scan, if you get 20 posts here on hexus you will qualify for free delivery from scan. Also if you keep an eye out on that today only page, espeically over the weekend, you will normally get the lowest prices of anywhere.

Not usually, but it's not impossible especially if you order early in the day.

Usually takes 2 days for me.

It takes on average about 6 hours turnaround tuesday to friday, so as long as you order before 10 the day before you have a fair chance on getting it by around 5pm the next day.

Saying that, city-link are touch and go I got mine last time at 5.25... seriously... ha

For a little more btw you can get a 640GB AAKS WD drive which is considerably faster than the 320.

For the about 10 quid more than a 20" LCD you can get a 22WLCD instead, Neovo is on today only (but not at the absolute best price we have seen it before though) for £125 IIRC...

My friend has a system with an earthwatts 500w powersupply and he is running an overclock e8500 and 2x crossfired 4850 sapphire gfx cards. Now the system does boot but it must be very close to the 500w limit. Do you think he should upgrade his cpu and if so which would you recommend.

I will second that recommendation for the Asus P5Q Pro board.

I have it and originally had a Q6600 running @ 3.25ghz stable , temps 34 Idle , 38 workload.

I have now installed a Q9550 and it works well with this also.

I have had 4.1ghz out of it on this board before crashing.

So for the price , i recommend it.

There isn't really anywhere worthwhile to go after the E8500, well not in dual cores anyway.

If he is just gaming then it shouldn't matter whether he has a decent dual or quad

The 500W earthwatts is a seasonic jobby I believe so it's certainly got the quality and efficency to run a higher spec PC. As for that system it should be fine, I doubt it pulls more than 300W really. A good way to tell if it is any where near it's limit is to see (or hear) whether the PSU's fan has ramped up as it will only do this when heavily stressed.
