    War - wtf!

I have just started to play WAR and I’m enjoying the game except for the fact that it seems to judder a hell of a lot!

    My spec is

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
    MSI P35 Neo-F Socket 775 FSB1333
    Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory
MSI GeForce 8600 GTS OC Edition 256 DDR3
    Western Digital 160GB Caviar SATA II 300 7200rpm 8Mb
    Arctic Power 700W PSU
LG L194WT 19" TFT Monitor running at 1440x900

I installed FRAPS and monitored my FPS.
On medium gfx settings when there is a lot going on my fps is around 35 - 45 at its lowest.
On the fastest frame rate settings under a heavy load I get 50 - 60 fps.

Why the hell does it still judder/lag.

could it be my hardware? I can play games like mass effect, fear, stalker, COH and C&C with quite high settings and get no issues at all.

My net connection is fine nothing is using it while i play WAR so it cant be that.

I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed.

Please help me as I need this issue sorted before I lose my mind!

    Re: War - wtf!

WAR is a new game = loads of people playing it = the servers are crammed full = servers running slowly = you get juddery gameplay (i think)

the tabletop versions runs more smoothly, has an inbuilt character customisation system too

I would guess your video card isn't up to the job.

Try turning a number of the eye candy options off and see if things improve.

    Re: War - wtf!

On the fastest frame rate settings thats with everything either turned off or at its lowest setting under a heavy load FRAPS tells me Im geting 50 - 60 fps .
so that makes me think it cant be my graphics card.
surely WAR on low settings cant require more power than COH or Mass effect on high settings.

There's only one fix for this. Uninstall the game. Problem solved.

On a more serious note, its not your system, its not the servers, its the game itself. Its bugged beyond belief. Lots of people are having this problem (me included) and have no response (last time i looked) from the Devs.

I have tried just about everything i could have to sort out these issues(also had it crashing), but decided to cut my losses and not waste my time on the piece of **** that is WAR. You can try the Warhammer Alliance site and see if anyone has come up with a proper fix.

    Re: War - wtf!

Your graphics card is what holds back your system, for future games you will need a more powerful one, i would reccomend getting a HD 4850 and you will be set up for the next generation no doubt.

As Bean pointed out, its the game itself.

Some people, like myself running a 6800 still, fine no problems at all.
Others with rigs that would make seti@home people have a little bit of wee come out at the thought of all that power, are suffering major problems.

One of the problems has been addressed by an addon rather bizzarely.
(cant post link as dont often post here and not up to 5 threads but :
Goto curse gaming, then addons, war, and the 2nd highest downloaded one is called "buff throttle".
    Grab that one!

This has helped a lot of folks out. Worth a shot anyway!

Unofficial forums at warhammeralliance might also help you out. Lot of talk about ongoing issues with the client like crashing to desktop etc etc.

Hope that helps in some way.

Graphics card the 8600gts is not designed for gaming!!!! It is designed for HTPC use with hardware hd decoders and light gaming for people that want to play occasionally on relatively low resolution tvs (720p). It was never a good graphics card for gaming even when it first came out.

Its a supported GFX card. The issue isn't the card, its the game. Simple put, its bugged.

    Re: War - wtf!

Are you running Vista? I know you have 2gb of RAM, which is the minimum needed for WAR. More RAM would definitely help, I'm not saying that is what is causing your problem but my desktop has 4gb ram and runs WAR faultlessly, my lappy only has 2gb and get's a bit choppy/laggy in busy areas.

    I'm using xp mate,

nieros i'll try that addon thanks mate. cheers for the constructive reply that is actually going to help me. why do people decided to reply to questions with usless bits of OPINION not fact.

saltynay ive never had an issue with playing games on my 8600. i play COH on 1440x900 on relativly high graphics, mass effect plays fine in 1440x900, so i dont see where your "8600 was not designed for gaming" idea came from. I dont want to get some crazy sli 280 set up as i only play games on my 19" monitor.

    Re: War - wtf!

Just because a graphics card wasn't designed for gaming doesn't mean that it can't play the games. A quadro is a rendering card designed for CAD applications however the high-end ones also cream games. IMO its the 8600 which is your weakness as it was never built to play high-end games with good fps, its worse then the previous gens card of 7900 in gaming performance. You made a mistake when you first built your pc as a 7900 was cheaper then the 8600 and gave better gaming performance what it lacked was media abilities that come with the 8500-8600. The 8800gts 320mb gave 50-90% performance gain over the 8600 at the time so even sli'd 8600s struggled to match it. A much better card to of bought would of been the X1950pro ultimate or the £40 more expensive 8800.

Indeed it is a supported card, and the game is bugged. That said, it seems to get better with each successive hotfix and patch.

Another suggestion for the OP - are you playing the game fullscreen or windowed? I play in a 1680*1050 window on my 1920*1200 monitor and the client is *much* more stable. That said, I'm using ATI cards, so I'm not sure if it'll help in the mid term until they get the client stability sorted.

Ok mate fair enough but your missing my point.
I can play games like mass effect fine which are alot more taxing on my card than WAR, so its not my card. also my FPS is fine as i have monitored it with Fraps. did you even read my first post?

    Re: War - wtf!

Also by the way, on curse gaming the same person who did Buff throttle came out with another fix.
    'Infthrottle'.
There is a bug whereby it constantly spams influence updates after loading a zone.

Again Id throw that addon at your machine and all.

Keep an eye out for any addon by 'Aiiane' basically. Kinda War ui guru and been fixing stuff before developers even think of it.

Latest patch also includes a fix with regards to combat logs, this may also improve matters for you today.

Just hang in there, lots of patchs coming on a regular basis and you ain't the only one suffering.
