    First Build, First Major Problem

    Antec 1200 Case
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, Yorkfield Core,
    Vista Home Premium 64bit
    Powercolor 4870 512mb
    2 * Sata HD
    Creative X-Fi Fatality
    Xigmatek HDT-S1283
    Asus P5Q Deluxe Motherboard
    4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800)
    Corsair HX 620w Modular PSU

The problem that I have is this

I have a few computers, off the shelf & pre-built, so I've been testing different parts with different pcs. Things I've done to test what part is causing the problem:
Tried new build with different monitor, not a monitor issue.
Tested the memory with memtest & tested each stick seperately in new build & both sticks on a different pc, works fine.
Couldn't test 4870 on a different pc, so tested an old 7800gt on new build, still experience same problem.
Installed the X-Fi in another different pc, works fine.
CPU temperature is around 30 degrees C. Case, graphics card & cpu fans all working fine.

I can't do much on the new build because this problem occurs pretty much everytime I use it. I load up the system (normal or safe mode), load up a youtube vid, browse on the net or run crysis demo & then the mouse pointer doesn't move & the screen goes haywire.

I'm starting to think it's the motherboard as it's got some sort of black permanent ink markings on some of the motherboard components middle of picture, two black sques and on the back of the motherboard it looks like grease has been absorbed & dried into it.

I've bought a lot of things online & offline, never had to return anything before, ever, so all this stuff about RMA is new to me. I don't want to inconvience myself & Scan with a problem that can be fixed, if it can, but my options are getting limited, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what is causing this & how it can be fixed.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd be inclined to think it's a mobo fault as well as you have tried a different graphics card and monitor, and also ruled out memory problems etc. Have you tried the latest motherboard bios ?

Re: First Build, First Major Problem

    Hi,

I would have to agree with edp33, sounds like a motherboard problem after you have tried all those things. I would be inclined to RMA the motherboard with the fault, esp since it seems to have arrived not in new condition. In the end they will test it and youll know one way or another if its that.

Good luck, Scan support are very good.
