Re: Make XP machine permanently boot into safe mode with networking
The internet gets upstairs by my wireless dongle into the PC we're on about. Ethernet cable is a no go, Homeplugs can't be done as i only have one socket in my room.
Re: Make XP machine permanently boot into safe mode with networking
2 suggestions in that case...
Firstly, if you unplugged the PC that you're using as a bridge to the wireless router surely you have another socket which could be used for a homeplug network point?
Secondly a wireless ethernet bridge will do *exactly* what you are asking for, while saving you a wodge of cash on electricity and being smaller, silent and without the worryover boot time.
Re: Make XP machine permanently boot into safe mode with networking
If you only have the one socket you could fit a new face plate to the socket which fits into either a single or dual pattress but has 3 or 4 sockets on the plug side. Allows you to add more plug sockets safely into the mains system.
1 Gang to 4 Gang Switched Socket converter
Would give you the extra sockets to homeplug to upstairs. Then I presume a simple switch could be connected via the homeplug and give you several hard wired connections upstairs...
Someone correct me if I'm wrong about how the homeplug works as never used one myself.

Yeah, thinking about getting one. Perhaps with a separate 4 port switch aswell. Would this do the job? http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?W...ction+(Realtek)
Homeplugs aren't to be used with an extension lead.

I've heard mixed reviews about using those, some give good results some give bad, so might just have to go with the bridge.

Ah right, I see what you mean now: I thought you meant you had one spare wall socket which was in use with the XP machine plugged in.

La Fonera used to give 1-port routers for free. I basically flashed mine with DD-WRT firmware and use it as bridge for my 360 :)
you can get a cheap one from that flogging website, if you cannot find one for free
hope this helps
