    update to sp3???

When sp3 came out i did not bother updating it onto the home pc. What I want to know is is it ok to carry on using sp2???? I mean the the windows update still updates.

I know some people still use sp1.

    Thanx!

    Re: update to sp3???

the way i look at it is if microsoft are releasing sp3 and updating sp3 then there are holes to be fixed. I do have one machine that is running sp2 and it seems fine. i guess i dont have a definitive answer for you. but personnally i try and stay as upto date as possible.

    what age is your pc?

    Pirates ?

I know you all folks and you all keep your AV solutions and firewalls up-to-date, so why does this ethos not carry over towards the operating system?

SP3 includes a LOT of hot fixes for vulnerabilities within the files that make up windows and as such it should be an essential upgrade when installing/updating.

    Re: update to sp3???

The pc has a pentium 4 and running xp. Not sure how old it is as it was my dad's work pc, until he got a laptop. The reason i didn't update when it came out was due to the problems i had with my pc. On my own pc i updated to sp3 but it caused the pc to really slow down, so i had to go back to sp2 and now it will freeze for 5 seconds maybe on getting into windows. But I found out that that may have had something to do with my amd processor and the update.

So when the updates came for the home pc which is on a pentium 4 i didn't want the same to happen. When i saw the update i cancelled it. So bit worried of now dl sp3 and something going wrong.

    Re: update to sp3???

I'm running SP3 on my machine (after having re-installed the OS for a hardware upgrade) and haven't had any issues with it. SP3 looks more like a bundle of updates grouped together rather than any significant OS changes like SP2 was.

I too noticed a significant performance hit in terms of boot up speed after installing SP3 on my old machine, not quite sure what in particular caused it.

Well just updated my laptop which i have not used for a while. But not sure if i should update the home pc as the pc is not fast (i guess you can call it normal speed).

Don't want update and find its slower than before.

    Re: update to sp3???

Is Microsift still giving updates for sp2? Because as I said the windows updates still happen.
