    wep network problem

    We have a Belkin router and a Belkin network adapter. I was using wpk security but we were having problems with it so I decided to put it to wep 128bit. It gave us a 26 characters comprising of letters and numbers. I applied the settings and obviously got disconnected because now the network adapter didn't have the new password. Went into the settings of the network adapter and typed in the password that the router had given us and pressed ok. We went back into the section where we typed the typed the password for the network adapter and it has cut the password down to 8 characters. Obviously the password isn't 8 characters so we can never connect to the network and never get access to the internet.
    Why is it cutting it down to 8 characters and how can we make it work again?

    Which version of Windows are you using? Also, are you using the Belkin utility to manage the wireless adapter?

    I suspect the Belkin software is expecting a passphrase or maybe a 64-bit key. Can you see any options to change the password type?

    Alternatively, you could try letting Windows manage the wireless network and enter the key through the Windows Wireless Configuration...

    Re: wep network problem

    Well the 26 characters will be the HEX version of your password (1->F), which should be derived from an 13-character ASCII password,

    ie testpassword1 -> 7465737470617373776f726431

    It might be the case that the web front end just populates the password field with 8 asterisks in it (i think that windows does this in some cases?)

    mmm is this any help?
