    overclocking gtx280 in sli

Appologies in advance for this rather rambling question, especially if this subject has already been posted on...

Overclocked gpu's in sli, how are exsisting oc's effected by the introduction of a second card?

Basically I have a xfx gtx280 graphics card which i've overclocked using good old rivatuner, nothing major i took the card up to the speed of one of the xfx oc cards (640core and 2400mem vs stock 602core and 2214mem) and very nice it is too.

However now i've been sucked into upgrading to a second GTX280 to run sli. The card i've bought is the pre overclocked xfx gtx280 (on which i based my own overclock) and my question is what will happen when i introduce this card into the mix?

Will they both run at the higher speed or will the sli bin my overclock, view my original 280 as stock and adjust the new cards speed down to suit?

Any ideas? Failing that i'll just have to plug the bugger in and see what happens!

It will run at the slower card. Not sure if you can overclock, but you certainly do not need to overclock - no point endangering your cards when the gain is zero

+1, one standard gtx 280 is already very powerful, two is just off the scale. No need to overclock as you will gain nothing in performance. Just enjoy it , and I hope you have a very high res monitor.

Thanks guys you've backed up what i was thinking, that they will clock at the lower speed and that's fine by me.

I'm not going to bother overclocking the cards as you say 2 x 280's is probably enough graphics power....for now lol!

As for a monitor i have a 15" crt lol

Dear god i hope your joking, otherwise you will see worse performance from the 2x280s over the 1x280 lool.

Worry not the 15" crt was a joke!

Quick update: Got my second card yesterday and installed it - sli, it's a beautiful thing.
