What CPU will my MOBO take?

Hi. I have a Packard Bell PC. It's 2 years old next month. The CPU and MOBO are the only original things left in it. I want to change the CPU. The board is limited. A bit crap. But It plays new games alright so I want to keep it. Hopefully a i7 uATX mobo and PSU will be more in my budget next year.

I'm pretty sure it won't be taking the latest 45nm Core 2 Duo. I don't even think it will take a Quad Core. Or will it? I have £150 max to spend on a new CPU.

    HERE IS MY MOBO DOCUMENTATION

Which CPU do you think will be worth while?

My current CPU is a Core 2 Duo E6300.

Re: What CPU will my MOBO take?

if you're going I7 next time round, then me personally, i wouldnt bother changing the cpu, but if I did, the E5200 would do me till then.
And it does look as though it will only support dual core, so any dual core in the lga775 package.
But like I said, is there any point in spending vast sums of money on a CPU if you're going to be upgrading next year?

EDIT: Having said that, does that chipset support 45nm CPUs?

I very much doubt it. This mobo would not POST with an 8800GTS. Others with the same mobo came to the conclusion that the via chipset is to blame. And there have been no updates for this board in nearly a year. New ATI cards are fine. All I know about this board is on the link above. A 65nm core 2 duo would be a safe bet. But it seems hard to find retail that sell them. Scan sell 1. And that is £500+

Re: What CPU will my MOBO take?

Im thinking something like E6600 / E6700. ?? A safe guess might i say. Theoretically it should support a Q6600. But over-clocking would run you into problems.

But as stated 65nm Core 2 Duo / outside change of the Core 2 Quad are the best bets.

    Good luck.
