PS3 wont output 5.1 on blu-rays

Hello,

I have a Sony DAV-DZ260 system with a PS3 connected via the optical port and have set the PS3 to output 5.1 and DTS. This works fine with my games but when I try a blu-ray it only outputs stereo which I dont understand. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

does the bluray you're trying to play have 5.1 sound?
does it say on the back of the case that it does?

Yes, I've tried a few different films:
Band of Brothers
Rambo
Harry Potter box set

The home cinema's with built in blu ray players aren't usally to the best for inputting other source like a PS3.

The only thing i can reccommend is to make sure that the home cinema isn't on two channel.
