Sometimes when a virus attacks it can corrupt certain parts of the system, and have had it before were once you delete the infection the system will turn off and a fresh install is sometimess the only way. Have to say it is quite old school for that to happen and the new Anti-Virus stuff is pretty good (and you can normally backup the important files of a system before the removal of certian infections, so if the worst comes to the worst, you can just restore).

Echo Splash + which AV are you using? What file did you remove - path and name. It's not unknown for AVs to wrongly detect a virus - my work initially forced Norton on my new laptop - it promptly told me a Ghost disk image was infected (which it wasn't)!
