Laptop turns off when AC power removed and battery plugged in

    Hi all,
I have a Dell Latitude D400, and lately I've noticed that when I remove the AC power cable when it is on, and the battery is plugged in, the laptop would turn off as if the power had been cut. It's a minor problem, as I can simply just use standby when I'm moving about the house

Does anyone have any ideas how to solve my problem?

    Cheers,

Does it normally run OK on just battery power?

My ASUS EEE does that- it is a graphic driver problem. My workround is to put it in standby, remove/insert power, then wake it up again. If I just insert/remove the power without going to standby it crashes with graphic driver errors.
