    Xigmatek heatsink and AS5

    Hi

I was building my PC today and am using a Xigmatek S1283 cooler on a Q6600 with AS5. I used the normal push pins and applied AS5. But while attaching the power cables, the cooler became loose so obv was not fitted properly. Now I noticed 2 of the pus pins ends are bent apart a bit. So will it not fit properly now and shall I just get a retenton kit? If they will fit then if I re attach the heatsink tommorow then will I need to clean off the AS5 and reapply?
    thanks

I think you will be better of with the retention kit.

If the paste is still on the heatsink/cpu then I think not worth reapplying. If it's come off then reapply.

Did you switch the computer on at all?

Use some long nose pliers to squash them back together.

Once you've got all four through the board, then push and turn the black part. Sounds simple but can require some pressure.

The retention kit is an easier route, but it is possible to mount it without.

I've got the rentention kit and my word of advice for when you install it is to make sure you take the fan of the heatsink before hand.

    ok cheers
i was told that i should not stick the bracket to the behind of the board. If I dont do this then wil the bracket not move wen I turn the board around?

What i did was NOT peel the sticky bit of but placed it under the board lining it up in the correct holes.
I then put the cpu in and place the heatsink on top and screwed it down which then pulls the bracket together with the heatsink so it will only come off one you unscrew the heatsink.

hopefully it will come tommorrow and I can get it up and running
One more thing, if the gfx card dont line up with the holes on the bracket, will I break the card or pci e socket if I push it to try and fix a screw on?

    Re: Xigmatek heatsink and AS5

    UPDATE
Got my retention kit yesterday. Was much easier then the push pins
Altho I was told not to fully tighten the screws, but Im worried as the HS still wobbles a bit when you touch it.

My temps after changing the FSB and multiplyer to 9 x 300 and ram settings on auto (apart from timings and voltage @ 1.9v for corsair xms2 600hmz) were around 51C after 15 mins of linpack testing.
    Is this ok?

2.7Ghz loading at 51c is not bad, depends on your case airflow and ambient temperature

    Re: Xigmatek heatsink and AS5

idle temps at 2.7 was around 25C.

do you think I can get it to good temps at 3ghz?

also would I need to manually set RAM settings or leave it on auto?
