Need help finding what part of my computer has died

Well my computer died today, after the second freeze of the day (first freeze in months) I tried a reboot and nothing... no post....

It appears to be a problem with either the motherboard, or the graphics card Unfortunately it is a machine that I use for both personal and work use, so need to get it sorted asap. I don't have a spare PCI-e or PCI GPU to test the motherboard with, and where live in Devon there is nowhere close that sells them

With or without the GPU the machine will not post, and there are no warning beeps from the motherboard (ASUS A8N SLI SE) either (which I would have expected with no GPU at all). There is full power, and I have stripped it right down to the minimum.

I did take the GPU to a local PC shop to try and rule that out, but to be honest I am not that confident in the blokes PC knowledge to rule out the GPU atm, as it didn't work in the machine he tested it in, but it was only a media PC, so I am not sure it would have had the wattage to run the GPU, but it gave no warning beeps either. I'm pretty sure however that he only only used 1 of the 2 plugs on the adaptor though

I don't have a lot of cash atm, but I have a feeling that I am going to have to wait for a cheap GPU to arrive to try and rule out the GPU, before purchasing the correct part. However I am open to suggestions.

Well I went and made a schoolboy error, and although I stripped the machine right back with regards to the memory I realised that I had forgotten to check different memory slots The problem it turns out was one of the memory slots on the motherboard is faulty!

Good job I was wary of that PC shop numpty
