Setting up Dual Monitors

I have a big tv right next to my monitor, and would like to set up dual monitors so I can watch films and play games on the tv.

8800GTS 640mb
Vista 64bit

Monitor - 20" Samsung Syncmaster, connected to pc via DVI - DVI
Tv - 22" LG 22LS4D, connected to pc via DVI-VGA adapter, then a VGA cable into the RGB port of the tv.

For the life of me, I cannot get the damned thing to work. I have tried every resolution for the tv and constantly just get a "No Signal" display. I have spent days trying to get this to work yet nothing is happening.

The computer detects the TV and I can change it's resolution and that, but on tv I just get "No Signal."

I'm tearing my hair out here, anyone have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

When I connected to my PC to my LCD I had to use a VGA to VGA cable. Does your LCD have an input? I seem to remember the cable costing a fortune.

I don't really get what you mean. I can plug the vga cable into the lcd, if that's what you mean.

My graphics card just has 2 dvi ports, which is why I needed the adapter to connect the vga cable.

I'm thinking that I might try connecting via the hdmi port. Those cables are really expensive to buy in shops, but only cost a few quid on ebay. Would something like this work?

Do you have a auto config button on the remote, if you do try hitting it and it might stretch/adjust the signal to the monitor size, and what resolution are you using, try 1024x768 to start off with

I've tried every single resolution . No autoconfig button sadly, I can set the ratio to either 16:9 or 4:3. I've tried every resolution from 800*600 all the way up to it's native res of 1920*1080.

What should I be doing this in, windows display settings or the nvidia control panel?

If I change the aspect ratio from the menu, I get "Not programmed" instead of "No signal" though I don't know what to make of that.

windows/nvidia does not matter. According to you windows see it, do you not have a vga in on the tv?

Yeah windows recognise the name of the tv, the native res and stuff.

I'm using what I assume to be a vga in, as the vga cable fits nicely into it .

There is an Auto Config. option in the menu but it's greyed out.

Yup that's the one that it's in. The input is rgb, which is the one I'm on.

You need to be in vga

I am. The vga cable is connected to the ONLY input it can be plugged in to - the vga input.

I can select the following sources:
DTV
TV
AV1
AV2
Component
RGB
HDMI

I am pretty certain that RGB is the vga input, it can't be anything else can it?

According to that link it says Resolution - 1680 x 1050 tried that

Here's what I've done.

I went through every single resolution, from 800*600 to 1920*1080. Every time I changed the resolution, I went through every ratio the tv could display, tried every option available and still, nout.

It's not the adapter or the cable, because they both work with use on the monitor. It's not a faulty vga input, because when I connect my xbox via the vga input, everything works.

I'm totally stumped by this haha.

The only thing I could suggest now is trying the lg as the primary and try it without the samsung connected. If it fails at that, I would then try via hdmi
