Angry Swapping 720 with 3500+ killed mobo?

    Hi.

Just swapped out my 720 X3 (which has been working without hitch for 3 months) with a Sempron 3500+ to check the 3500+ worked (which it did) and put the 720X3 back in, to find that the DS4H now goes into an infinite short beep loop (Power Problem).

Putting the 3500+ back in, the system works perfectly.

I've reset the bios, unplugged everything and re-plugged it in, and still get the same problem when trying to boot with the 720.

Help! Any suggestions? I'm hoping i've not somehow killed the chip.

    Basic Specs :
    Gigabyte 790GP-DS4H
    Proc 720 X3
    2x OCZ Reaper 1066 2GB Kit
    Enermax 535W PSU.

Just popped down to Novatech to get a microatx one for the 3500+, but the bios on it doesn't support the 720, and can't upgrade it until i've reinstalled installed windows 7.

I seriously hope it's not dead. All pins look fine, and i don't understand how being out of the mobo for 5 mins could have killed it - apart from ESD, and i wore protection!

Looks like the chip is dead. Won't post in the K9N6PGM2-V with latest bios ( 9.4), even though MSI says it supports it... http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=do...1&prod_no=1472

    Guess that's a return then!

Confirmed Dead CPU by novatech, back to AMD for test & replacement.

Has anyone else killed a 720, and if so, how?

    Ta!
