Fan connection on mobo snapped off

Hi there, I have been meaning to ask this for a few weeks but have not had the time to get round to it. While unplugging my 3 pin fan connector from my motherboard I pulled the whole thing off by accident
Can this be soldered back on again or is that it knackered for good? It is a very clean break.
I have always been wary of these things (stubby fingers you see) but this is the first time it has ever actually happened to me.
Any help would be truly appreciated,
    Thank's, Cus

probably not worth the effort, u can always get power from an adapter from a molex. If its the CPU fan header then u may need to think creatively if ur bios wont let you overide any alarms and shutdowns due to fan rpm feeback

Re: Fan connection on mobo snapped off

I forgot to mention it is the motherboard of my PS3!! It got the YLOD and I fixed it with a re-flow and some Artic Silver 5. It now works but because the fan is not connected I get a "console is overheating" message after about 5 mins before it switches off.
I suppose I should have put this in the Sony PS3 section but it is pretty quiet in there and plus I figured one fan connector is the same as another on a circuit board, isn't it? (not a rhetorical question)

Re: Fan connection on mobo snapped off

If you litteraly pulled the connector out of the board then it probably wasn't soldered in properly in the first place, or you must have given it one hell of a yank. You could try soldering it back in or cut the connector off and solder directly onto the pcb.

Re: Fan connection on mobo snapped off

Yeah I think I gave it a good yank, I never realised I was actually holding on to that piece of the connector, it was a bit fiddlely and awkward.

I have never soldered anything in my life so this will be another new experience. Do I solder the bits of metal that come in to contact with each other from the connector to the mobo?
