Bourne Blu-rays won't play but other Blu-rays will

I've got Windows 7 x64, PowerDVD9 and Bourne trilogy on Blu-ray. I had watched the Bourne Supremacy in the last week (after W7 install) so I put Bourne Ultimatum in tonight to watch that. It didn't work. PowerDVD9 would "load" the disc but somewhere between 71 and 84% each time PowerDVD9 will just crash. I've no idea why. It seems to vary each time I try loading a Bourne film but it is between 71 and 84% roughly. I've restarted my PC but that didn't help.

I thought it was the Blu-ray bit of PowerDVD9 that was broken but I've worked out that Sin City and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Blu-ray versions) both playback so why do the Bourne trilogy Blu-rays not work?

Any ideas? I was thinking of reinstalling PowerDVD9 but if Sin City and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang both play in Blu-ray format on PowerDVD9 is there any point? Or is there something about the Bourne discs that needs something special from PowerDVD9 which could have become borked and a reinstall could be a good thing? Suppose it could at least eliminate that being a problem.

I think you're right. It might be well be the addition of a slightly different DRM Implementation.
Either re-install or try another player.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: Bourne Blu-rays won't play but other Blu-rays will

Usually PowerDVD will tell you if it needs something new, seems every time i put a disc in I get a 'this disc needs an update to play' message, and then it downloads something, then its about 50/50 whether I have to reinstall powerDVD after it fails at updating, but eventually it works.

I guess if the DRM is very new Cyberlink may not have got round to providing a patch yet if its not autodetecting.

Tried the latest PowerDVD patch Marc?

You could try a trial of AnyDVD, which I think deals with the DRM itself. Never tried it for BluRay myself, but apparently it has support.

Could be. But then if the first two Bourne films played OK why are none playing now?

Again the first two Bourne films played OK. Now none do.

Unless I'm being very blonde I can't find a recent patch for PowerDVD.

I might give AnyDVD a try. Just a bit miffed that two Bourne blu-rays that did play on here now don't.

Is it possibly codec related, a long sht i know but maybe different file formats are used between the films.

But if I've not changed codecs then why are two Blu-rays that did play now not playing?

I know old ones used to use MPEG-2 as opposed ot the more efficient H.264 codec thats used now, there could possibly be others im not to sure. Did you get to trying different Blu-Ray oftware ?

Not yet because I want to know why the same software on the same computer that played two Blu-ray discs now won't. Nothing's changed that is obvious and that I'm aware of. Until I know why two working Blu-ray discs now won't work I'm not interested in trying other software.

Cyberlink > Downloads > Software updates > PowerDVD > there are 2 updates for PowereDVD 9 there. Or you could click here.

Glad you got it sorted. Guess you won't want to apply them now though.

Well only the one for PowerDVD9 Ultra. And having checked the PowerDVD9.exe I've build 2115 already. Thanks for the link though. Couldn't find that earlier.
