Computer giving blue screen and cutting out on start up!

So as in the title, every time I turn on my computer, it gets to the windows startup screen, gives me a blue screen, cuts out, then restarts. Next, it gives me the option to start in safe mode, from the previous configuration that worked, or in normal mode. Either way I choose the same thing happens ie blue screen, cut out, restart. Any suggestions?

Also, the previous night I left my computer plugged in to mains all night as it was installing 10 updates while shutting down. Not sure if that's relevant but just in case!

    Thanks in advance!

Usually a blue screen during windows startup is a harddrive error, maybe a diskhead fault. Best bet is to grab something like Ultimate boot cd and run the harddrive diag tools on it.

It could be any number of things sometimes, I can't remember how to make Windows pause on a BSOD, but that would at least tell you the driver/subsystem it is having an issue with.

Pressing the pause key *might* allow you to see what it is having issue with.

My suspisions when I get BSODs are usually always duff memory or graphics cards.

Could it be overheating? Have you checked inside to see if the fan is moving on the CPU?

I would also remove HD and backup everything you need from it and try re-installing windows.

After disabling automatic startup the blue screen comes up with a stop code:

    0x0000007e (0x80000003, 0x08053355e, 0xf8dd50c, 0xf78dd208)

Re: Computer giving blue screen and cutting out on start up!

A quick Google says that this is most likely due to an incompatability with the service pack 3 for XP.
    Instructions on other threads are as follows;

This issue may occur because of Service Pack 3 installation it sometimes clashes with some other software’s so we need to uninstall Service Pack 3. Please follow the steps below to fix.
    Solution:
    a) Boot with Windows XP reinstallation disk.
    b) When you receive the Welcome to Setup message, press R to start the Recovery Console.
    c) Select the correct Windows XP installation that’s listed. And enter the password for Administrator. If you dont have any password press enter.
    d) At the command prompt, type cd $ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst, and then press ENTER.
    e) On next prompt, type batch spuninst.txt, and then press ENTER.
    f) After Windows XP SP3 is removed, type exit, and then press ENTER.
    g) Restart your computer it should work.
