Mobo or CPU dead? S1156 in Herts

My machine went Fizzle and stopped. Won't reboot.

Eliminated PSU from equation (works fine with other machine)
Can't check RAM as other machines are DDR2
Can't check CPU or Mobo as others are S775 and this is S1156

Anyone in Herts (I'm in St Albans) who is able to assist as I cannot RMA both CPU and Mobo (different vendors) as one is gonna work and I'll get charged.

Or any other bright ideas how to check whats the faulty component?

Regarding the PSU it would be a good idea to use a digital multimeter to check the voltages when the computer is under a heavy processing load.

    I quote OP

"Eliminated PSU from equation (works fine with other machine)" and I also put another PSU on this. The PSUs are both fine. I'm 99% sure its the mobo

Are the any visible scorch marks on the mobo/CPU socket?

I live near Hertford, i can check the ram for you as i have an AM3 setup. I can only check using a multimeter if there is an issue with the mobo, Have you tested graphics card? And have you made sure all the gold standoffs are positioned correctly, not shorting out the mobo, test it outside the case.

Not quite. You have proved that the PSU powers another machine with different specs. While I agree that it may eliminate the PSU as being faulty, checking the voltages with a multimeter on the suspect system will show if the PSU is shutting down because of a fault (in which case it is nmore likely to be the mobo) or not. It may help you with the diagnostics.

Update: GB repaired the mobo. Worked fine and now 6-8 weeks later.. fizzle again.

Very unusual, what PSU are you using? Just because it works for a few minutes on another system doesn't mean it's safe to use.
