Angry my laptop is slow after disk defragment

OK so I ran disk defragment and now it takes 4 min 53 sec for my laptop to start up. I am using Win XP and before I defragmented my hard drive it used start up within a min or 2... How do I fix my laptop now?

    Hi,

Assuming you used the inbuilt defrag, it's probable that it's just defraged and not actually moved most used files to start of disk.
You could either restart the PC quite a few times, which might speed up the system or alternatively, use something like IObit to do another 'smart' defrag.

The new time before i can start using my laptop is 5:09. With Smart Defrag I defragmented it again using the "Fast optimize" option. Should I do the "Deep optimize" option or would I need to do something else?

EDIT: deep optimize did not make a difference

EDIT 2: i ran norton AV and it did not find any virus

If nothing works, just reinstall windows, you could also look and see if you have any lose connections to the hard drive.

If that fails then either, the cable has gone or the hard drive is on its way out.
