Hello all boffins and brainiacs!
Here is my challenge for you.
I have an Astone Z series notebook based on the ASUS L4R chassis. 1.7 ghz, 80gb hd purchased in 2004. Running XP Home. Service packs 2 & 3. Works fine.
I was given a new Seagate 120gb SATA drive moons ago. Lurked in the "junk"...sorry "potentially useful parts" cabinet until I decided to obtain an external USB case from an Ebay retailer.
Installed the drive in the case, powered it up after attaching to the laptop via a USB 2 port.
Windows did it's "found new hardware" thing and I assumed all was going well...until I checked "My Computer" which showed a distinct lack of hard drive.
I went to device manager which informed me that the drive was indeed attached and all was well.
The problem is ...although the drive is attached and obviously functionable, my system does not see it to allocate a drive letter and so render it useful.
I figure that this model board my not have the drivers that may be required to allow the drive to be seen by my system given as it is a 2004 model and SATA was probably not a standard deal back then.
Question is, how do I solve this challenge please?
Cheers,
Andrew
