    cant detect hard drive on amilo 2727 laptop

    cant detect hard drive on amilo 2727 laptop
    my mates gave me laptop to look at , upon bootin it goes through the siemens splash screen the i get this message.
    pxe-e61 :media test failure , check cable
    pxe-m0f : exiting pxe rom
    operating system not found
    i have tried to install win 7 + win xp but i get this message , no hard drive found
    when i enter bios all that is showing on main page is
    cpu type
    cpu speed
    install memory
    system bios version
    vga bios version
    kbc version
    serial no
    product name
    manufacture name
    uuid version
    no sign of hdd

    the pxe messages are because it's trying to boot over the network (because it can't find tht hard drive). Have you taken the hard drive out and tried it in another machine to make sure it isn't just plain old broken?
