Having issues in games and think its SSD/HDD related

    I've got a Crucial 128M225 SSD and a WD 1.5TB green HDD.

I've had ongoing issue with all games freezing and sound looping randomly whilst in game. The only game that didn't do it was the one on the SSD.

I made a fresh Win7 install with nothing other than the drivers for the graphics card (ATI 5770) and sound (Xonar) and put a game onto the HDD - same problem.

Reinstalled the game on the SSD - no problem.

Anyone heard of this before??? Is there anything I can do to solve it? other thank junk the SSD in favour of the HDD.

Presumably you mean junk the HDD in favour of the SSD?

Check the windows logs to see if there's an error message related to the disk.

Re: Having issues in games and think its SSD/HDD related

If I could just use the SSD then I would. But its 128GB and I can't fit my games on there. I could jsut have a few games on it and chop and change I guess.

How do I check the logs?

Some games play up others aren't so bad. STALKER didn't cause any fuss (odd considering its rep) any valve game freezes/sound loop. Bioshock 2 sound loops and sometimes freezes but not always at the same time. Borderlands freezes/sound loops.

If Borderlands is on the SSD its fine for ages and then freezes and the sound stops. If I ctrl.alt.del and then press cancel it goes back into the game unfrozen - its similar but not the same behaviour as if it were on the HDD.

STALKER was on the SSD and that never gave trouble. AvP was on the HDD through Steam but that never gave me trouble.

Metro 2033 on the HDD crashed to desktop. Haven't tried it on the SSD.

The test really is to put the valve games and metro on the SSD and see if the create. If they do then I'll take out the SSD and just install them on the HDD. I have an nvidia 460GTX graphics card so will try that too - with and without the SSD.

Machine is overclocked but the same happens when on default values. All drivers and firmware have been updated to no effect.

Control panel->system and security->View event logs (under administrative tools)

Get rid of the overclock until you've 100% fixed the problem - if you have to RMA any component you might be voiding warranty.
