    ip lease/renew

I looked at my router log today and saw that it had communicated with VM servers twice (i.e it asked for a new lease from VM) I then went to command prompt and typed ipconfig /all to check the lease expiry date. It said it would expire in 2147- is that normal ???

That lease is the DHCP lease for your machine, and the period of validity is set by the DHCP server in your router.

Unless you expect to run out out of available ip addresses within your DHCP scope before then, no.

    That's a no, then

    Re: ip lease/renew

Noticed in my router log that over the last two days this has appeared:

    DHCP Client: [WAN]Domain name = cable.virginmedia.net
DHCP Client: [WAN]Send Request, Request IP=----------
DHCP Client: [WAN]Receive Offer from ------------------
    DHCP Client: [WAN]Domain name = cable.virginmedia.net
    DHCP Client: [WAN]Send Discover
    DHCP Client: [WAN]Send Release

But it appeared twice yesterday, and once today. Is that normal? I looked in the router settings and the lease renew is set to forever.

That's basically your router asking the Virgin DHCP server for a new ip address, or a new lease for the same one. It's normal behaviour, so you can put your tin foil hat away
