Is it normal for quads (Q6600) to have core temp variation.

    I have a Q6600 @ 3ghz that's for cores read in coretemp at idle

    0: 42
    1: 42
    2: 38
    3: 40

is this normal on a quad the 2 core being significantly cooler is the thing I noticed does this mean that I should lap the heat-sink and cpu because it's being caused by unevenness or not?

    Thanks for any insight.

I have an i7920 and that spread is exactly what I see from RealTemp on mine. I didn't worry about it as all the cores didn't get too hot even under OCCT.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Atleast your Q6600 is roughly even, I have two cores that sit around 28c whilst gaming, one at 38 and then the final one hits 45c Has always been like this since I got it and under many different heatsinks. Don't worry about the temp variations as some cores will do more work than others at times.
