Asus M4A88TD-V EVO motherboard and xfx hd 5870 gfx

    Hi all,

I have just put together my own PC.

    The components are:
    motherboard : Asus M4A88TD-V EVO
cpu : AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition 3.3GHz
    case : Coolermaster Elite 430
    psu : Corsair GS800 (800W)
    ram : 8gb DDR3 1600MHz
graphics card : xfx hd 5870

The motherboard has a built in graphics chip and everything boots fine.

The problem is when I try to use the xfx hd 5870 as the main graphics card. It doesn't seem to work. The fan on the xfx hd 5870 spins up (at full speed as it is very very loud). In windows, when I try to install the graphics drive for the 5870, it says no XFX card detected.

If I disable the onboard graphics via the bios and reboot, I get 8 beeps (which I believe is a no vga adapter found error).

I have updated the bios to the latest version 1702. Still no luck.

Any ideas? Is there some other bios setting that needs to be made?

Or is it possibly as case that the XFX HD 5870 is incompatible with the M4A88TD-V EVO?

I have done a search and there does seem to be a few other people with this issue. So, is it just a compatibility issue or should this card work with this motherboard?

Could it be the graphics card is defective and I should just send it back for a replacement?

Out of curiocity, has anyboard got this graphics card working with a different motherboard? If so, which motherboard is it? I may end up just buying a new motherboard to get this working.

    Thanks.

    Cheers.
    Daz.

I got a M4A89GTD PRO and i have a vga switch card, did your motherboard come with one? its a small pci express card. You use it when your using one graphics card. I dont think the graphics card gets detected without one on my motherboard, I haven't tried

    Hi shakerist,

Thanks for the reply. No, I didn't get anything like that with my motherboard. To be honest, I didn't know what that was. So, I have just googled it. Interesting. It seems you cannot buy them any more though.

I am thinking of just going to get a new motherboard such as Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H. Searching the internet, it seems people are running the XFX 5870 using this motherboard.

    Cheers
