It's a mystery: computer stalls halfway through POST

have you tried leaving the battery out over night. I once had a machine which when the overclocking went too far etc woulnt wipe out with a reset or the battery out even for an hour.

It took several hours for it to drain out completetly.

Thanks for that idea. I've taken the battery out now and will leave it overnight and see what happens!
