USB DVD drive not reading properly

This is driving me absolutely crazy. I've tried running this drive on my desktop, works absolutely perfectly.

Attach it to my emachines nettop though, and no such luck. I can see discs, I can copy files from discs. But if I try to play an audio CD, it just makes a lot of seeking noise and does nothing. WMP, VLC and EAC ripping software all do nothing and just produce errors suggesting that the disc is inaccessible.

Yet I can see the disc right in front of me in My Computer. Any ideas?

I'm assuming it's a software conflict right now but I've got hardly anything installed at the moment, so I can't imagine it's going to help.

Assuming there is another USB port, try that one instead? (If you haven't already)

This does seem a really odd scenario, though. :|
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Yeah I've tried all four, and then disabled the other three in device manager out of desperation.

How do you mean? That the drive isn't capably powered by the USB ports on the nettop? Surely if that was the case I would be unable to read any disks, let alone pull files off them?
