    Booting problem

Wondered if someone can help me.

Basically when I shut off my machine it takes quite a while to power down.

Then when I power on my machine it shows a static windows shutting down screen, then the fans go crazy and it posts twice before finally booting up.

I'm using an Asus P8z68-V Pro Gen 3 and Windows 7 is installed on an SSD.

    I'm currently overclocked.

edit: even when I revert back to stock it does the same thing

    Re: Booting problem

I used to have a posting problem, where it would post around 3-5 times, fans going nuts.

I found removing ALL hardware, including fans, and leave only the CPU, 4-pin and 24-pin power lead in, restart (obviously it will beep, no RAM) then reinsert all hardware.

I even tried resetting the BIOS by taking out the CMOS battery. For some reason it didn't work, so the only way which worked for me was forcing it to detect NO hardware, then re-detect the hardware.

Obviously reset the BIOS first, then try it.

Is the motherboard old? It definitely sounds like your BIOS has got confused with the hardware somewhere.

    Re: Booting problem

is the cpu cooler properly applied and contacting the CPU evenly across its top? I don't think this would cause all the problems you mention, but it could certainly give an erratic system and some bizarre fan speed-up issues if cores of the CPU aren't getting adequate cooling while others are.

    Re: Booting problem

    I've removed everything and re-installed.

Reset values in bios, reset via cmos battery.

The motherboard is only a few days old.

What's weird is when shutting down it goes to the "windows shutting down" screen as it should, then the screen goes black, then the windows shutting down screen appears but the loading graphic is static again before finally powering off.

Now when I re-boot it goes straight to the "windows shutting down screen" with loading graphic static fans goes nuts then it does the usual two post then boot.
