Hiya, i finished puting together my new pc, was using it all day yesterday (games, msn chat, irc, web browsing etc), then today after about 30 mins or somin i was chating on msn messenger and i get a blue screen (at this point i was in shock like that)

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL -- this was the main error, i herd somewhere this was a memory error :?

ive looked on google, some say its the modem when using a webcam (i dont have a webcam), others say its to do with a memeory errror (all the parts are brand new) ive also read it could be due to badly configured set up (im a bit of a n00b so this could be it )

Run memtest or Prime95 & that should tell you if the ram is at fault. I did have the same prob when using some std Twinmos. Swapped it & problem desisted.

driver irql not less or equal is a very generic windows error, it doesn't mean much unless accompanied by a file name - and even then, a bad driver often causes a completely different driver to crash the system, so it's a bad indication

The main 2 causes of this ive found to be:

The PSU (you dont list which one your using). If its a generic no brand one, or a "550 watt" Q-tec, its the first place id point to be the cause.
Other than that, its usualy a cpu/mem/motherboard problem. Nailing it down to which one is the hard part, as Directhex says, its a very generic error.

oh, also just noticed your using the USB speedtouch - make sure you have the latest drivers and your USB port can supply enough power to keep it happy (they are very power hungry)

the old geforce drivers had this problem, but they fixed it, and you don't have a geforce card anyway. If I were you, I would probably download the latest drivers for every bit of hardware you have, and think about that - that includes usb 2 drivers, lan drivers everything. have you installed xp correctly ? sounds wierd but getting things in the wrong order can cause problems. Does it happen every 30 mins? or was it a one off. As someone mentioned, what PSU do you have? Have you overclocked? don't until you get it rock steady, then start speeding it up.
