Thumbs down Unable to write CDs? :(

    Okay, heres the thing.

I have what I believe is a Sony 320E DVD/CD-R combo drive and its worked great up until now. The other day I went to use Easy CD creator to make a new cd and got this message

"Please insert a disc with sufficient space"

I have reinstalled the software and still get the same message. At the moment I'm thinking its either my drive is broke, Windows is being smelly with Easy CD or aliens have somehow messed with my brand new CDs while I wasnt looking.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanky

Are you trying to write too much data to the drive? Less than 700mb for standard CD's (unless you use overburn etc etc). If not try using a different burning app. Try Burn4Free (Google it). Contains some adware but is easily removed using ad-aware.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

burnatonce is properly free, it's a clutter-free gui on top of the open-source cdrecord tool

I've never had an install of Easy CD that's worked well. I suggest you use directhex's advice to see if that will get things working. If it does, then clearly the problem lies with Easy CD.

Are you using CD's with sufficient space?

    Sorry.

Some Sony models (more specifically the DVD/CR-R combo drives on laptops) would stop working if you installed Nero after Easy CD creator had been installed. It did it to my rig ages ago, and I ended up reinstalling Windows to fix the damn thing. Did you install anything recently that might have caused a conflict?

Sounds silly but this is the most likely explanation.

Try with a different burning app to confirm whether its your drive or the software thats the problem.

I think I did install nero a while back but didnt like it so I got rid and easy CD worked fine for ages after. I haven't made any changes recently that I know of.

As far as trying to write too much goes I know that's not my problem because I try just writing about 5MB and that didnt work either.
