Copy files to USB pen in safe mode?

How can I copy files off a laptop that will only boot into safemode?

I need to copy outlook inbox .dbx files which are quite large so not floppy.

Can I network whilst in safe mode?

OS is windows 98 with virus problems. Problems with kernel32.dll

Not my PC and I don't have the exact details.

I don't know if win98 safemode has a network support option... check see if it does.

Also, maybe do it from DOS? I'll have a more in depth look for pen drives in DOS, but this might help: http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm particularly section 4.

The driver won't load in safe mode anyway...

safe mode will (probably) disable the driver, as it boots using safe default drivers (e.g. 640x480x4 graphics.)
do it the linux boot-disc route or the dos route as Kez suggested.

gah! Kez beat me to it.
