    Arrgh.. Think I've Cooked It..

So I've got my nice new TFT, and I bought some nice Corsair 3200XLPT ram while I was at it..

As it's 3200 I thought I'd take the opportunity to move the processor over to 400FSB, 10*200 = 2000Mhz, around about what it was before. I had to put the ram voltage up a bit or it's start throwing up errors on bootup, so that went up to 2.8v (normal for this corsair stuff iirc), 2-2-2-5 latency (auto detected.. w00t), and the cpu voltage up to 1.7 just to make certain everything had enough power..

Just had a UT2004 sesh, the pc locked up and now it's coming up with "System failed memory test", *before* it does anything on bootup...

It was getting a little bit toasty (60 C on the diode)..

    System as follows:
    Asus A7N8X Deluxe 1.04
    Athlon XP2500 @ 2Ghz
    Corsair TWINX1024-3200XL RAM

    Any ideas?
I've left it to cool down, but it's still coming up with the error.. somehow I doubt the memory is the problem.. Ill motherboard?

could be anything. Can you get to the bios to change the setting? if nto reset the bios, if you havent already... some ram is fussy at higher voltages....

Do you know what chips are on your ram? my corsair wont get hot untill i push it to 2.9 and thats with a nice overclock to 230fsb 2-2-2-12.

Did you really need to up the voltage of the RAM becuase you increased the processor FSB???! Try resetting your CMOS, removing and replacing your RAM, and errr, well, see what happens after that and tell us, unless someone else's got a better idea. Unlucky .

The battery? Did you try resetting the CMOS? Cos the removing the battery would reset the CMOS .

Had to up the ram voltage because it wouldn't post properly, increased the cpu voltage after..

I think the cpu volts were too much and made it overheat..

Yeah, couldn't find the cmos reset pin, just took the battery out instead

It's looking a bit better now, it's not anywhere near as hot at 1.65 as 1.7volts.. oddness..

If its any help, I have my Barton 2500 XP running at 200 * 11.5 (2300) with the core at 1.725 volts and it runs absolutely peachy. (RAM is at DDR400 at 2.5 - 3 - 3 - 7, stock voltage)

Well, with a ThermalTake SilentBoost, some Arctic Silver, one speed control intake and two thermally control exhaust fans, this very moment its at 42C. Encoding an .mpg vid with full processor priority, it reaches an absolute maximum of 54C, unless the ambient temperature is really, really, really hot (very hot, ya know ). Put simply, i've never remotely had heat probs with it. It can, most of the time, manage without the case fans on. I have OTS warning at 66 degrees and shutdown at 70.

Hmm, starting to think the panaflo on the cpu might not have enough throughput..
