No longer detecting external HDD via eSata

Hey all! Hope you're all having a good weekend so far!

So, I have a 2Tb external HDD which I connect to my computer using the Sharkoon SATA Quickport Pro and an eSata connection. I have an Antec 1200 case which has an eSata port on the front. I use this drive for backing up the two internal hard drives I have.

In the last week or so I tried to back up my Hard Drives, however the program I used crashed part way through, saying that connection to the external drive had been lost. Checking in 'My Computer' the external drive was indeed missing. It tried again a couple of days ago and it did it again.

Finally, I tried it again this morning and now it doesn't detect the drive at all, not even in the BIOS on start up. I've tried the basics (switching the computer on and off, disconnecting/reconnecting cables, switching the Sharkoon port on and off) and so far nothing has worked!

As far as I'm aware, I've not done anything - installed any new drivers or changed any settings - that could have affected this so I'm a little confused (and worried - it's been a while since I backed everything up!)

    Any suggestions?

    Kindest regards,

    Kirano

does the drive work if you connect it internally, and if you connect another drive externally does that work?

do you have a SATA to eSATA cable to try connecting internally too

thus figure out if it's the drive, the cable, the caddy, etc that's faulty. could be the cable connections

Okay, so, today I fiddled around with the cables again, connected everything up and.... it appeared to work fine. The drive turned up on My Computer and got through a back-up of my internal drive with no problem!

That said, I've now just noticed that the drive has once again disappeared from My Computer! I'm not sure when that happened; the backup finished maybe an hour and a half ago. I then I explored around to check what other things I'd backed up on the Drive and had no problem accessing any of it! :/
