    Sound on TV from laptop

Hi all. Got a problem and its doing my head in.

I to connect my laptop to the TV but having problem with the sound. Aim is to use laptop base as a media centre.
    This is what I have.

    Laptop - Packard Bell TJ68
    TV - Matsui 37" lcd

I connected the vga from laptop to tv so have picture. Then I connected the audio cable to laptop headphone out, into tv audio in port but I get no sound.
The TV has a vga for video and green 3.5" audio port for sound so I am thinking all should work.

Any what I may have missed as I really want sound to come from the tv.

Have you set your audio to use HDMI in windows? (under sound in CP)
Someone left a note on a piece of cake in the fridge that said, "Do not eat!". I ate the cake and left a note saying, "Yuck, who the hell eats paper ?

Re: Sound on TV from laptop

you won't because the VGA channel (pc) does not have a sound input

What channel are you plugging sound in to? RGB, RCA?

try testing the audio in jack with a phone or mp3 player, might have a menu setting for it maybe ?

if another source doesn't give sound its either a dead input or a setting you missed somewhere ?

Can't see any settings on tv. I think my idea of using a laptop base as a media centre is a no go.

Re: Sound on TV from laptop

The green audio in he is referring to should be directly associated with the PC VGA input as that's what it is intended for.

My TV has exactly the same thing and it works exactly as he is trying to do it.

My first suggestion would be to check volume output level on the laptop itself.

Next would be to dig through the settings on the TV and make sure you have not missed one, although on my TV there is no setting associated with the green audio input as it is directly associated with the VGA in as stated above.

Next would be to check the cable to make sure it is OK if you used the exact same cable to test it with an mp3 player and the cable was bad it would not work either.

Try using the same cable to plug the MP3 player into the blue line in on your PC, make sure the line in is turned up in the volume settings, if the music comes out your PC speakers then the cable is good.

if all else fails then you either have a duff output port on the laptop (easily tested with headphones) or a duff input port on the TV (easily tested by plugging a known good audio source in with a known good cable)

I will also ask you are actually outputting the audio through the TV speakers yes? on my TV audio from the VGA circuit does not pass through so if you are trying to output the TV to an amp your problem could lie there as well.
