Sounds like your fan and fan-header are both faulty, and the tests you ran prove this. Perhaps the fan might have damaged the fan-header (don't know if this is possible). I would buy a new fan and stop using the faulty header at all - power your new fan from molex.

Yeah I ened up taking out the exhaust fan that I'd put in and currently have the slow fan hooked up to the power and the good fan attached to the good header. I know it should be simple, but I can't for the life of me find a cable on Scan or Amazon that I could use to hook up a 3 pin fan to the power, what cable should I be looking for? The slow fan is hooked up using a cable that also powers my DVD drive, but I'll need another cable for when I buy another fan to have as an exhaust one again, that's not a stupid one with a little thermometer. Thanks if anyone can provide a link

Re: Problem with a front fan

This will power a 3 pin fan from a 4 pin molex connector:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/shark...wer-adaptor%29

Or this will give more connections and option of reducing speed/noise:

This for more 4 pin connectors:

Thanks for the links, but I'm not sure any of those would fit my PSU. Here's a pic of it and it's available connections: http://www.todaystechonline.com/wp-c...cg-520m_03.jpg

You need to attach one of the molex power cables that came with your PSU, you should have had a couple supplie with it, then the top link http://www.scan.co.uk/products/shark...wer-adaptor%29 should connect fine.

Lead to connect to the PSU is as below, if you haven't got any you'll need to contact your PSU supplier.
