Sound Card Caput After GFX Card Change - ?

Hi Guys,

Not sure what's happened here, maybe someone has seen something similar...

My brother gave me a AMD 5570 (i think) card, I have a 8800GTS in the PC so I decided to change them around. After getting doing so, and in windows, I noticed there was no sound at all....card doesn't show up in the device manager, but I can see there is power running through it (optical port on the back is glowing red).

I tired swapping the GFX cards back, removing AMD drivers, a unsucceful restore point, removed the sound card (its a Creative Labs SB0730 X-Fi) and put it back, still doesn't show.

Any possible factors here?

I did do a bit of dust cleaning while I had the PC opened the first time, before I swapped the GFX cards, but I pretty much stayed well clear of the sound card!!

I'm back to motherboard sound...which is fine, just wondering if I have to ditch the X-Fi card now

I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu - I think someone else had the same problem, which lies more with the X-Fi drivers I think. You can try disabling the 5570 audio under windows audio devices to see if that helps.

Not listed in the device manager however is a bit of a worry. Maybe a shared IRQ, Unusual, but possible I think?

Usual sound problems are caused by the HD audio on the more modern graphics card, so I agree, disable this first and see from there. You may also need to adjust "sounds" in control pannel to ensure that it is using the correct audio device.
