Mac not printing help

HI friend has asked if i will go and look at his mac as he is now unable to print (says it happened after bt came round to fix a fault), so any help on what to look for other than cables loose, (is it anything like a win pc, e,g device manager\ pick which device to print to etc)

On my pc (not mac) if I change usb to a different port, it does not like it and refuses to say the printer is connected until put back into the original port.

Thanks was the usb into the back of the monitor, bt engineer had unplugged it and put it back into wrong type of socket (think it was ethernet)
