    Dead ethernet adapter

Right, couple of weeks ago, my psu blew up, and took out a HDD and seemingly the cpu on my system. Rma'd the lot off to Scan, and got it back today with a shiny new PSU. Issue I'm having is that the ethernet port and the onboard sound no longer work. Not so worried about the sound, I have a soundcard to fix that, but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea on how to get my internet working? I've updated the drivers, double checked the cable, and even done a clean install of windows (it was long overdue). The adapter shows up in the BIOS/Device manager, and reports no faults, but it cant detect the cable being plugged in, and it doesnt light up. Im currently using my phone as a wifi adapter, so I have internet access, I'd just prefer the hardline to be working

I would expect it to flash if it was working ok.

might be damaged along with the sound.

How old is the motherboard? can you RMA it or send it back for repair.

I bought a 2nd hand gigabyte board from ebay that didn't work and was able to send it back to gigabyte for repair as the board had a 3 year warrenty.

    you might be as lucky.

    Re: Dead ethernet adapter

I have a feeling its dead >< Its only a year old, its a sabertooth 990FX, and I can defiantly get it RMA'd, I only got it back from one today Its more I'd prefer not to have to, Ive already been without the pc for two weeks (one week to sort out rma and collection, one week with scan) and the mobo as a whole is working, just not those parts. tempted to just buy a cheap board while its off being repaired XD

    Re: Dead ethernet adapter

Probably a dumb question, but have you checked the BIOS to make sure they haven't been disabled?

That's interesting - most companies don't honour a warranty for a second user, just the initial purchaser. Good for Gigabyte!

If you take that path, you might want to just buy a cheap ethernet card, for example: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/dynam...-ethernet-card

Easier than swapping out a whole motherboard

I had a look, it shows its still there, probably why it passed the RMA, there's no errors in the BIOS, it just doesn't actually work >< I also reflashed the BIOS, see if that fixed it. No luck so far

I did look into that, but I'd still be left with a dud board that's under warranty, so i may as well get it fixed. The issue is that I'd be left without a PC for another couple of weeks, which would be a serious pain for uni. The CPU and the rest is just fine, so if i get a £30 board, at least i can use it, just about

I would defo get it sent back and fixed. I would detail the issue and all you have done trying to resolve it.

Good thing with a cheap board is that you can probably sell it on again with no major Loss.

Know anyone who can lend you a laptop so something for a few weeks ?
