Very Strange! New PSU 24 pin won't latch to new mobo 24 pin socket

Hi, hope somone can help. I've been putting together a new system for a family member and when I finished my final checks and went to insert the 24 pin plug I discovered it wouldn't fit snug and latch on to the socket. I used way more force than I'd like with no joy. I grabbed a 24 pin cable from a fully modular psu and checked if it fit the new mobo, snug as a bug. I dragged an old 775 system close enough so I could check whether the psu with the 24 pin that won't fit the new system would fit my old 775 mobo. It fit snug again?

If I split the 24 pin down to 20 pin and 4 pin, the 4 pin fits perfectly but the 20 won't sit flush. I finally got the latch to grip with all 24 pins but there is still a small gap, do you think it's safe to boot it up? I've included some pics.

I'm not sure what to do. It's not the new mobo because it accepts all my other 24 pin cables just not the new psu. It's also not the psu as it fits all my other boards. It's just that the new psu and new mobo don't get along.

    Very confused.

That's fine - the pins are quite deep so contact will still be good. Give it some gentle rocking and it might fully go in. If not and it's clicked in place, I wouldn't worry about it. Those connectors can handle quite a bit of load!

I'm pretty used to them looking a bit off, depending on how tight the bends are in the case, the wires can end up exerting more force on the pins that the little clip does. As long as the clip's on and it's not falling out, I'd be happy with it.

Thanks for the replies guys, that's what I wanted to hear. I thought it was tight enough but couldn't help imagining the worst so thought it's best to check. I found it odd that it was only the combo of the new board and new psu that wouldn't fit tight.

I'll mark this solved once I've booted up.
