motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

    This is my system-
Jetway motherboard with an Intel 945G chipset.
Intel core 2 duo processor E4500 at 2.4 GHz
    Hynix 1 GB DDR2 667 RAM

Recently i started using my PC after being powered off for almost 2 weeks. The clock was set at default when i powered it up. I set to the current date and time. But ever since it keeps getting to random dates and times.

However, every time its somewhere in May 2014.
Right now the time is 12:35 PM (real time over here is around 10 PM) and the date is 14th may 2014(real date 10th may 2013)

Anyone can help me fix this?

BTW, i did a mild overclock from 2.2 to 2.43(even had a thread about it over here). Do you think upping my FSB screwed my board?

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

As Gonzo said, but in the meantime, setting the clock to use internet time (time-a.nist.gov works as a server) should allow it to update automatically, preventing you from having to redo it each time when you reboot your PC.

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

but guy if the battery was bad, wouldn't the date and time get set to the default (1 Jan 2007 in my board). Also my setting for FSB and different voltages in the BIOS aren't affected. If the battery was bad, they would've gotten reset as well wouldn't they?

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

Thing is, if the battery's bad, it costs virtually nothing to replace. If the board's bad, it's going to be a much bigger pain in the neck.

I agree it doesn't sound like totally normal behaviour for a bad battery, but it's a pretty easy fix to test out.

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

It normally only connects once a week anyway, since a PC ought to remain fairly accurate for a spell of 7 days. It's not really a big deal, it's just a bit easier sometimes than finding an accurate clock and manually typing it in.

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

hey guys i just got a battery and popped it in.. its working great so far.. however the battery i took out from the mobo said CR2032 on its face whereas this one says CR 2025. Anybody knows what this is about?

    Both are of 3V btw..
Can i use the CR2025 safely..?

Re: motherboard keeps getting set to random dates and times..

The CR2025 has a lower mAh rating, which means it'll last less time.

It'll most likely be thinner than the CR2032, but as long as it firmly fits in the socket there will be no issues. It's the same voltage

Nope, although some motherboards will mostly use the power from the mains when connected to keep the time.
