new graphics card - interesting choppy framerate problem!

Well I tried to completely remove any nvidia drivers from my system by following one of the guides found on the interweb - but I fall over at an early point; after removing all the drivers, I try to delete any nvidia folders from C\\Program Files etc. but I'm told these folders contain files which are in use!!

Have you rebooted into safe mode and delete from there? If you are using Windows 7, press F8 after bios boot complete and select safe mode. If you are using windows 8, bring up msconfig via run command and go to boot tab. Under boot option select safe mode and ensure minimal is selected. Then the delete the folder/file from system under that.

Damn. Well, I manually removed every file, folder and registry entry; rebooted, fresh installed WHQL 320.49 and rebooted - still got the issue, so can't really blame the drivers.

It wouldn't be the first time nvidia broke something very specific in drivers. Very few people play with a gamepad versus mouse/kb so it's still a possibility - other idea is to check if there's a firmware update for the card from the dev manu.

Otherwise just keep clicking on your face before you play games/videos

I think I might have found the problem.

All Keplar GPUs (GTX6xx and GTX7xxx) have a feature called GPU Boost. Basically, an algorithm on these boards/drivers raises the Clock and Voltage, based on GPU usage, temp etc.

On the nVidia forums, people are in arms about this, as nVidia have taken it upon themselves to take the control of overclocking away from user and are doing it themselves. It seems though for some users, this algorithm doesn't seem to be working probably; in some cases, killing the GPU.

There's a petition going to ask nvidia to include an option to disable GPU Boost in their drivers. Hope it works, too!
