Unhappy Computer not booting into Windows...

Hi guys, I wonder if you could help me with a problem I'm having...

For some reason, my PC has stopped booting into Windows 8. It seems to load fine up until the windows 8 logo and the little pinwheel, then the screen will go black, the monitor will turn on and off, and the numlock key will also flicker off once every few seconds. If left to cycle, eventually the mouse pointer shows up on the screen, which I can move with the mouse, but each time it cycles, it will centre the mouse cursor again.

I've removed and reseated RAM, and the system boots fine with a Ubuntu live CD (which I'm posting from now). I can also see all of the internal HD partitions, including the system drive which is an SSD, and nothing seems to be amiss (however I haven't used any diagnostic tools, as I don't know any for Ubuntu).

Anyone got any ideas how I can get my box booting back into Windows? Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

Any Windows updates recently? Sounds like some system files are corrupt maybe. Tried system restore to revert back?

I presume the windows 8 install disc also acts as a repair disc? Run it and 'repair windows' or similar?

Very difficult to boot into safe mode on Windows 8 if you are unable to start Windows 8 properly as required either msconfig to safe mode, holding ctrl key while clicking on power button to restart the computer or through PC settings in here: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/win...nto-safe-mode/ to initiate it.

Yep, Windows 8 install disc you can repair it. Select your language + keyboard layout and at the bottom left click 'Repair your computer', 'Troubleshoot' and you would want to select advance option. From Advance option, you can see system restore, system image recovery, automatic repair and command prompt.

Re: Computer not booting into Windows...

I've been having this problem with my windows 7 laptop after a windows update.. keeps getting a black screen with a cursor. When I restored for the 3rd time (it takes a couple days to happen again) I looked in device manager and something had a yellow exclamation mark next to it. Make sure after you restore that none of those yellow icons are appearing. I hope it fixes this time, but I'm not sure what windows update could be causing it.

To me it sounds like a bad update. The copy of Windows 8 is it a disk or download? If it is a disk try to repair the issue. Or you can try to find the updte and remove it. The draw back is you have to know what update it is. On a brighter not Windows 8.1 comes ou in three weeks. I don't know if it is a good or bad thing. Did you run check disk to see if there are any bad sectors on the hard drive?
