Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

    Gigabyte z68ap d3

Dabs just accepted my returns request after I showedvthem that picture. Finally some good news.

Theres still the possibility my CPU is the problem this whole time. I'll find that out tomorrow. If it is my CPU after all this I will cry. I can't afford a new CPU.

At least it's not an i7. I have a spare i3 you could buy off me cheap if you needed a CPU? What do you use it for?

Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

Thanks for the offer. I'll see what happens, it's possible the new mobo tomorrow will fix everything. If it doesn't I'll let you know. What model and how cheap?

I do make use of my i5 2500k with video encoding and video game streaming to twitch.tv, but an i3 could be a good temporary solution until I find something more powerful I can afford.

It's an i3 3220. I'd be willing to let it go for 45 quid delivered.

New mobo, same problem. Knew it would be CPU.

Does this mean my old MSI mobo is probably fine?

It's either CPU or power supply. I would imagine your old one is fine.

If you have an overclock on it, remove it. Have you made sure that the 24 pin and the CPU power connectors are in their sockets correctly?

Yes and I've already tested the PSU and its fine. Cpu is the only thing I haven't tested.

Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

    I'm horribly confused.

    I'm back on my computer.

After the same problem happened when I installed the new mobo, I didn't want to leave it at that and assume it was a CPU issue. So since I have onboard graphics on this new mobo, I plugged my monitor into that and my computer turned on straight away. No problems.

What the hell? Was it my graphics card all along?

So after more testing, I've discovered that my computer boots all the way into Windows all the time now. However, I still don't get a picture if I use any of the DVI ports on my 6870. The HDMI port works though. So yeah, I'm confused. The DVI ports are broken on my card, onboard GPU magically fixed everything. I can shut down and turn back on for the 1st time in 2 years. I don't even know.

Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

Maybe it's your graphics card causing the issue then. Surely your old motherboard supported Intel hd graphics? Your CPU is the one with the graphics processor, not the motherboard.

Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

No my old motherboard was P67 chipset which didn't have onboard graphics. I swear I'll be super mad if it was my graphics card all along. I know it's cringy but I actually took my computer to a shop for them to test my GPU, PSU and RAM. They charged me £15 and I'm pretty sure they didn't even test a damn thing. How could they miss my GPU being the problem all along?

I hate paying people for something I can easily do myself, but I just didn't have the parts to test my stuff. Do you think they are just incompetent and missed my GPU being the problem? Or is it possible the motherboard change has actually fixed everything.

Also might be worth noting when I made that last post, I was using my 6870 via HDMI but everything looked like crap. Colours, brightness, contrast etc were all way off. So I was reinstalling the drivers for it, and as they were installing my screen went black (normal when installing GPU drivers), but it stayed black. I had to reboot to get out of it, and after rebooting my initial problem of the fans spinning but nothing else happening came back. So I turned off my computer and plugged the HDMI cable into my onboard graphics and once again everything is completely fine. I think it's pretty obvious it's my 6870 causing all the problems at this point. I'm just super upset at this bloody shop now. How could they not see it? They just cost me £40 for a motherboard I didn't even need and the £15 they charged me for doing apparently nothing at all.

Re: Strange rebooting issue I've had for years

I would go in there. New GPU needed possibly too. I would first uninstall the drivers and then use driver fusion to remove everything left over. Then re install the drivers while using on board graphics.
