    K8n-E Deluxe Audio Probs

    Hi there,

    I have the following:

    Asus K8N-E Deluxe
    AMD 64 3000+
    512mb Corsair DDR400
    Leadtek 6800
    Seagate 120Gb Sata drive
    NEC 3500a drive
all in an Antec Sonata case (380w psu)

Now, I am having some probs getting the onboard sound working correctly.

I have installed XP with SP2 and all the latest nvidia and acl850 drivers, but, the sound comes out at almost half speed, its playing too slowly.

I have also installed XP with SP1 and the drivers from the supplied motherboard cd's but still the same problem occurs.

When I play any games they are very jerky and slow, so I'm not sure if this is a sound problem or a general problem with the motherboard/cpu?? Do I have to install the drivers in any particular order??

Has anyone else experienced this with the Realtek acl850? Is it the audio drivers problems or the nforce3 drivers??

    Thanks in advance,
    Me.

Hmm, I expect you've tried these possible solutions - Let's pretend that the mobo cant fail (just for now ) and just run basic tests

    1. The powerful board and the VGA card might be causing the PSU to struggle (unlikely as it would prob usually just die a death but just try another PSU to be sure)
    2. What is your AGP Aperture, WinXP swallows 256MB and in games if you have you aperture at 256 then you have no RAM to spare!
    3. Mashed drivers - Have you installed the latest from here:
    http://www.asus.com/support/download...K8N-E%20Deluxe
but ensured no existing device is already in control panel and drivers installed.
    4. System bottleneck - slow gameplay, dodgy sound but no crashing sounds like too few system resources - either RAM, CPU or HDD. (And as your system is pretty hot it's unlikely) - look at your processes and see what else is running. Run DXDIAG and see if that brings up any errors.
    5. Spyware & Virus - always worth a shot at searching and cleaning the system.

Then if nothing works, disable onboard sound and borrow a Soundblaster off a mate and see if it sorts out the slowness in games. If it doesnt it isnt the Audio and is either bottleneck or other mobo issue, if it does then it's probably mobo/audio problem.

Hope that might help a bit!

    Cheers for that,

I have disabled onboard sound and put an audigy in, and everything works fine now.
So it seems its dodgy onboard sound.. might RMA the board though...

    Thanks,
    Me.
