    Another PC restarting

    Not mine !

    Father-in-law-to-be

    Running XP Pro, Zonealarm firewall and AVG, PC is a 1Ghz jobbie with 256ram (1 stick) and a Radeon 7500 card.

    Basically it shuts down and restarts without warning, no shutdown message, no warning, screen just goes black and PC restarts, this happens wether online or not.

    Any ideas? Any known viruses causing this type of thing right now ?

    • Paul Adams's system
      • Motherboard:
      • Asus Maximus VIII
      • CPU:
      • Intel Core i7-6700K
      • Memory:
      • 16GB
      • Storage:
      • 2x250GB SSD / 500GB SSD / 2TB HDD
      • Graphics card(s):
      • nVidia GeForce GTX1080
      • Operating System:
      • Windows 10 x64 Pro
      • Monitor(s):
      • Philips 40" 4K
      • Internet:
      • 500Mbps fiber
    Properties of My Computer, Advanced tab, Startup and Recovery -> Settings button.

    This brings up the Startup and Recovery options property page - make sure "Automatically restart" is cleared.

    Then, if it's Windows having a problem you will ge the BSOD with the error code rather than a reboot.

    If it continues to reboot unexpectedly then my guess would be faulty RAM, CPU or something overheating.

    Cheers Paul - that would be my guess that its hardware related, Not advised him to uncheck the auto-restart option so will do that next.
