    Wireless Device Conflict...

My brother is having an issue with his Netgear N150 USB WIFI adapter (model WNA1100) and the wireless receiver for his PC 360 controller. The internet wireless signal constantly drops if he has the microsoft wireless gaming receiver plugged in... We don't know why this is happening . He's tried changing USB ports but it doesn't help. He basically has to choose between wireless internet access or using his wireless controller as he can't use both at the same time.

    Any ideas anyone?

try using a long usb extension(6-10ft?) cable to move the wifi adapter well away from the machine see if situation improves, if so its likely its simply rf interference, if not look at the usb config on the machine

    Re: Wireless Device Conflict...

Could be interference or try to change the WiFi transmission channels on his router and by a certain extent on his USB adapter, see if that improves the situation.

Worst case scenario - different USB WiFi adapter? Maybe something less bulky = less signal gain = less interference?

EDIT: did his WNA1100 came with the cradle? If yes, try to suggest to position it differently.

Tried changing channels on the router (Virgin Media Super Hub 2) and it had no effect. He has the extension cable with cradle so we placed it away from the computer and away from the controller receiver and it still didn't help. I'm thinking maybe he should just get a new WIFI adapter that supports 5GHz. He only loses signal as soon as he plugs the Microsoft gaming receiver in to one of the USB ports (I believe it is also 2.4GHz, but I don't see anyone else with the same issue).

    Re: Wireless Device Conflict...

5Ghz adapter it is then. If he can try one of the new 802.11ac adapters.

    EW-7811UTC for £12 (802.11ac adapter 1x1 MIMO)
    TEW-804UB for £13.50 (802.11ac adapter 1x1 MIMO)

    TEW-805UB for £22 (802.11ac adapter 2x2 MIMO)
    EW-7822UAC for £30 (802.11ac adapter 2x2 MIMO USB3.0!)

Unless you would like to save a few quid and go noname from eBay from £8.50 (for an USB supporting 802.11a).

Thanks for the info and i'll take a look. I won't bother with 802.11a as it's bit slow and outdated... Not tried the new 802.11ac yet though, although I bet most (if not all) ISP supplied routers/hubs only support up to 802.11n at the moment. I've seen a few dual band 802.11n USB adapters pretty cheap on ebay, but not sure what the range will be like with those?.

EDIT: Actually it appears my TalkTalk hub supports 802.11ac (Huawei HG635). Maybe i'll buy a USB 802.11ac adapter for myself instead and my brother can have my current dual band 300Mbps 802.11n adapter. Win win situation .
